You will hear over and over again that the most important factor in successful therapy and counselling is the fit between the therapist and client. While I absolutely believe this to be true, I feel it goes deeper than fit and is honestly more about connection. Connection is what I base my practice around. I believe that we are relational creatures and that healing, growth and happiness happens in connection. In therapy we can experience this connection when we are heard, validated and provided empathy.
I am not a cookie cutter therapist nor am I a purist. Some people like a more structured approach to therapy while others enjoy starting the work and trusting that we will end up where we need to. I use a collaborative approach and offer treatments that fit for the individual who sits in front of me. I take the time to get to know the people I work with and offer guidance, strategies and tools to move them in the direction they wish to go and in a way that feels authentic to who they are supporting their resiliency to grow into more.
