I offer client-centred Trauma Focused Therapy for survivors of chronic childhood abuse. This includes, but is not limited to; sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect and addiction.
Experiencing ongoing trauma as a child impacts the brain, body, personal and interpersonal development in a variety of challenging ways well into adulthood. At times, it can feel as though the symptoms of your trauma will never get better.
Beginning the work to heal and manage the impacts and side effects of trauma is not an easy process. It takes courage, commitment and dedication to learn about your specific trauma, apply mindfulness, develop self awareness and learn tools to decrease the impact historical trauma has on your life today.
My social work practice incorporates components of Trauma-Centered therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to create unique and individualized approaches for each client.
So often, trauma is attempted to be managed through talk therapy only. However, we are now learning that trauma also becomes stuck in the physical body. For those who are open to it, breathing techniques, stretches and physical movements incorporated into therapy can be helpful.
My therapy practice is LGTBQ+ affirming and I strive to provide a non-judgemental and safe(r) space for my clients.
